Abstract

SUBLETHAL EFFECT OF CHLORPYRIFOS ON SOME BIOCHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS OF GUPPY FISH

ABSTRACT

The sub-lethal effects of chlorpyrifos on various biochemical parameters of Guppy Fish were studied. Liver and Kidney being the main site of metabolic activity in body and highly active in detoxifying insecticides, was selected for the study purpose. The fish was exposed to sub-lethal concentration for 96 hours for sublethal concentration of chlorpyrifos was calculated by probit method for acute study and for 15, 30 and 45 days for chronic toxicity studies. Significant changes in various biochemical parameters such as glucose, total protein and glycogen content were observed. These changes were concentration dependent.
