Abstract

BIO-SYNTHESIS OF COPPER AND ZINC NANOPARTICLES BY USING PIPER LONGUM LEAF EXTRACT

Afsar Rizwana and Manohar V Lokhande*

ABSTRACT

Bio-synthesis of Copper and Zinc nanoparticles by using Piper Longum leaf extract was prepared and characterized. UV visible spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, (EDX), Transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) analysis. UV Visible spectra of CuNPs at 530 nm, SEM of the Cu and Zn was recorded and generally uniform state of nanoparticles arrangement of average size is 32 and 42nm, SEM has been used to represent the size, shape and morphology of collected Copper nanoparticles. TEM and EDX of copper and zinc nanoparticles was recorded, X-ray diffraction (XRD) of Zinc nanoparticles shows the values of 2theta peaks at 28.01°,32.14°, 32.95°, 35.71°, 38.50°, 45.98°, 54.55° and 57.10 ° and copper nanoparticles diffraction peaks corresponds to (110), (200), (211) and (220) miller index. The prepared nanoparticle was tested against Gram positive and gram -negative bacteria. The CuNPs gives better results as compare to ZnNPs. Copper nanoparticles with an average size is 32 nm and Zinc nanoparticle an average size is 42 nm was synthesized using Piper Longum leaf extract. This green synthesis method is alternative to chemical method, since it is very cheap, pollution free and eco-friendly.

Keywords: Piper Longum Leaf Extract, SEM, TEM, UV-Visible spectra, X-Ray Diffraction, EDX and Microbial activity.
