ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate efficacy of RISK OF MALIGNANCY INDICES (RMI) ie, ultrasound score and menopausal status, CA125 in preoperative diagnosis to differentiate benign ovarian tumor from malignant one. Methods: It was a retrospective observational study conducted at Obstetric and Gynaecology department of DVVPF medical college Ahmednagar. Study included all women presented with clinical diagnosis of adnexal masses and masses other than ovarian were excluded from study. Total 100 women were included into study from June 2014 to sept 2015. Results: Postmenopausal status is having sensitivity, specificity, PPV and NPV of 62.96%, 47.82%, 58.62% and 52.38% respectively, Ultrasonography is having 81.03%, 38%, 64.38%, 59.25% respectively and CA 125 is having 60%, 66.66%, 70.21% and 100% respectively. RMI score with cut off value of >200 is having sensitivity of 86.44%, specificity 82.92%, PPV of 87.93% and NPV of 80.95%. We observed that RMI score is having highest ability to diagnose benign and malignant masses compare to individual parameters. Conclusion: The RMI is able to discriminate between benign and malignant ovarian tumors. It is simple method that can be incorporated into clinical practice easily to enable selection of patients for referral gynecological oncologist for appropriate surgical intervention.

Keywords: Ovarian tumor, Risk of malignancy index (RMI), serum levels of CA-125, Ultrasound score, Menopausal status.
