ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL PROFILE OF GLORIOSA SUPERBA: AN ENDANGERED MEDICINAL PLANT

ABSTRACT

Gloriosa superba Linn. (Family: Liliaceae) commonly known as Glory lilly in English and Langali in Hindi, a native of tropical Asia and Africa is one of the drug used by various tribes and communities of India in the treatment of various disorders. It is also an important ingredient of traditional systems of medicine such as Ayurveda and Sidhha. Traditionally it is used in the treatment of various clinical conditions like inflammation, oedema, rheumatism, skin infections, arthritis, alopecia and many others. The present paper includes the reported uses of G. superba among the different tribes and areas of India.
