Abstract

EVALUATION OF ANTHELMINTIC ACTIVITY OF MORUS ALBA LEAVES

Singh Harmeet* and Tarun Parashar

ABSTRACT

Modern synthetic medicines are very effectives in curing a number of diseases but also cause serious side effects. Crude drugs are less efficient with respect to cure of diseases but are relatively free from side effects. Parasites have been of concern to the medical field for centuries and the helminths considered causing considerable problems for humans and animals. A large number of medicinal plants are claimed to posses anthelmintic property in traditional systems of medicines. In the present study the plant Morus alba was selected for its considerable Flavonoidal content, tannin, sugars, vitamins, amino acid, volatile oil, polyphenols content and an attempt was made to evaluate anthelmintic potential against Eudrilus Eugenia. As evident in some of the references used, the aqueous, ethanolic and hydro-alcoholic extract of Morus alba showed dose dependent anthelmintic action. Aqueous extract was the potent of all extracts. The death timings of all the extracts were not much closer to the Standard drug but it could be safer because of the pure natural source.

Keywords: Cyclo-oxygenase, Lipopolysaccharide, Inos, Morus.
