Abstract

DEVELOPMENT AND CHARACTERIZATION OF MUCOADHESIVE DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM CONTAINING LIPOSOMES

ABSTRACT

Sodium Cromoglycate is a Drug used for treatment of vernal kerato conjunctivitis. Aim of study is to formulate mucoadhesive drug delivery system containing liposomes to improve and sustain drug delivery to eye as compared to marketed eye drops. Multilamellar vesicles (MLVs) were prepared by using phospholipid 90H and cholesterol in different ratios by film hydration method. Liposomes were then characterized for entrapment efficiency, Particle size and zeta potential. Prepared liposomes were then incorporated in an in situ gel containing carbopol 940 and HPMC K15m. This system was then tested for drug release, gelling capacity, residence time, viscosity, drug content, isotonicity. Effect of autoclaving was studied considering liposomal integrity. Acute Irritation studies were carried on Albino Rabbits.
