ABSTRACT

A cross-sectional study on drug compliance and quality of life among diabetic patients was carried out in the rural areas of Salem district in Attayampatty and Kondapanaickenpatty for a period of six months. 100 diabetic patients are selected from the field practicing area of VMKV Medical College &Hospital based on quota sampling. The drug compliance will be assessed by a structured questionnaire and the quality of life by WHOQOL-BREF scale. The WHOQOL-BREF (World Health Organization Quality of Life – BREF) is a validated tool to assess QOL In people with type 2 diabetes and it is also appropriate for use across different nationalities. The quality of life was assessed using four main domains- physical health, psychological health, environmental health and social health. The quality of life among the diabetic patients in these rural areas could be improved with better cost effective and easy access to health care facilities, routine checkups and patient counselling about medication use and effects, lifestyle changes, food habits and also by helping them to improve their knowledge about their diabetic condition.
