SARIVA (HEMIDESMUS INDICUS R.BR.)- A REVIEW FROM ANCIENT LITERATURE.

ABSTRACT

Indian medicinal system which include Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homeopathy is prospering day by day, give emphasis on use of medicinal and aromatic plants in raw as well as liquid extract form. In Asian countries and mostly in India, plants have been traditionally used for human and veterinary health care. World population uses around 35,000-70,000 species of plants for medicinal, neutraceuticals and cosmetic purpose.[1] Sariva [Hemidesmus indicus R.Br.] commonly known as Indian Sarsaparilla. It was formerly placed under the family Asclepiadaceae, but now based on the pollinial characters it was shifted to Periplocaceae family.[2] Traditionally used for curing ailments like Stomach pain, Fever, Venereal diseases like Syphilis, Upadansha, Skin disease, Diarrhoea, Diabetes, Rheumatism, & as well-known Blood purifier. Dravyaguna deals with proper identification, collection, Storage & processing of the drugs, their action & properties. This article reveals complete step wise review of sariva from ancient.
