ABSTRACT
Ethanolic and aqueous extract of leaves of Eucalyptus globulus was studied for in vitro antimicrobial activity. The anti-bacterial activities is determined against gram-positive (S. aureus and B. subtilis) and gram-negative (E.coli& Proteus vulgaris). The inhibiting activity was evaluated using a slightly modified cup plate method. Muller Hinton agar was used for the growth of bacterial strains. Amoxycillin and ciprofloxacin is used as Reference standard. Results demonstrated both the extracts showed an excellent inhibitory effect on S. aureus than that of E. coli. Both extract are however not effective against Escherichia coli. Ethanolic extract of Eucalyptus globulus showed better anti bacterial activity than aqueous extract. These data would indicate the
potential usefulness of Eucalyptus species as a micro biostatic, antiseptic or as disinfectant agent.
