ABSTRACT

Objective: The objective of the study was to explore the risk factors for breast cancer and to highlight the various treatment procedures along with its diagnosis and screening techniques. Background: Breast cancer can be defined as a complex and diverse disease with a variety of histo-pathological and molecular subtypes with diverse clinical consequences and relationships with confirmed risk factors. Breast cancer is a biologically and clinically heterogeneous disease characterized by the collection of multiple molecular alterations. Tumors can show marked proliferation structures and outcomes. It is a prime public health issue. Early stage breast cancer carries a better prediction, with outcomes having enhanced dramatically over the last two decades with a 25% reduction of breast cancer mortality. Conclusion: It is important to identify and monitor the various risk factors for breast cancer and their relative importance among women. Due to the increased awareness programmes among women and a vast improvement in the diagnostic procedures including the screening techniques a better and earlier detection of the breast cancer has been enabled. This has significantly brought an improvement in the survival rate of patients diagnosed with breast cancer.
