A STUDY ON AUTONOMIC FUNCTION RESPONSES OF HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS AND NORMOTENSIVE INDIVIDUALS IN BIKANER, RAJASTHAN, INDIA

ABSTRACT

Hypertension is one of the leading causes of the global burden of cardiovascular disease. Nowadays stress is an absolutely inevitable part of life. Stress is a physical or psychological stimulus that affects both physical and mental health. Stress causes hormonal changes; biochemical changes various illnesses and psychosomatic diseases. The Parasympathetic Nervous System is responsible for many of our resting functions such as lowering heart rate, increasing digestive and gland activity and sexual arousal, the Sympathetic Nervous System is mainly associated with modulation of hormones and neurotransmitters relating to “flight or fight” responses. The present work was undertaken to study the association between Body Mass Index, Waist Hip Ratio, Blood Pressure, HAMA and Autonomic Function Tests in recently diagnosed untreated hypertensive patients and in non-hypertensive subjects.
