ABSTRACT
Cleome gynandra a potential medicinal herb and staple food in most African countries belong to the family Cleomaceae. It has a wide range of proven medicinal properties such as anti-oxidant, anti-arthritic, anti-cancer and antimicrobial activity. This study deals with the antimicrobial properties of aqueous and ethanolic extracts (10 mg/ml) of in vivo and in vitro plants of Cleome gynandra. The present study revealed the anti-bacterial properties of the tested extracts against four bacterial (Pseudomonas aureginosa, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae) and four fungal (Fusarium solani, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger,Candida
albicans) species. Among the tested extracts, ethanolic extract of in vitro Cleome gynandra was found to be most efficient than others.
