CIPROFLOXACIN INDUCED ERYTHEMA MULTIFORME: A CASE REPORT

ABSTRACT

Ciprofloxacin is a broad spectrum anti-bacterial agent. The incidence of rare and serious side effects associated to ciprofloxacin is 0.6%, rare effects such as Erythema multiforme (EM), Steven Johnsons syndrome (SJS), Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). Erythema multiforme is a self limiting mucocutaneous reaction which is exhibited by distinctive skin and mucosal lesions which shows bullae, papules or ulcers on the soft part of the buccal cavity. With wide spread prescribing of Ciprofloxacin for various diseases, the prescriber should be aware of these adverse effects that can occur, even though they have lower incidence rate. This case report is about suspected Ciprofloxacin induced Erythema multiforme in a 43 year old female patient.
