Abstract

MEDICINAL AND THERAPEUTIC POTENTIALITIES OF GREEN TEA (CAMELLIA SINENSIS )-A REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Green tea has increasingly become a very popular drink worldwide because of its immensely powerful health benefits. It is extraordinarily amazing what green tea can do for your health. Tea is one of the most valued and widely consumed drinks in the world. Besides being a delicious, inexpensive beverage that has no calories, tea has a unique set of natural chemicals that provide various therapeutic benefits. As more research is conducted, tea, specifically black and green, demonstrates significant antiviral, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticavity properties. Drinking a cup of tea a few times a day to absorb antioxidants and other healthful plant compounds. Tea's health benefits are largely due to its high content of flavonoids — plant-derived
compounds that are antioxidants. Green tea is the best food source of a group called catechins. In test tubes, catechins are more powerful than vitamins C and E in halting oxidative damage to cells and appear to have other disease-fighting properties. Green tea contains more than 300 different substances such as: carbohydrates, proteins, minerals and vitamins: C1, B1, B2, OT, B5, K and P. In addition, green tea contains: calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, sodium, silicon, phosphorus and its compounds.
