Mohmad Vasim Sheikh,* Navin Devadiga and Dr. Manish Hate

ABSTRACT

Objective: The In-vitro anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory capacity of different solvent plant extracts and essential oil of Semecarpus ancardium Linn. F leaves were evaluated by different assay. Method: For In-vitro anti-oxidant activities 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging and Iron chelating methods were employed. Ascorbic acid was used as a standard. Anti-inflammatory potency was determined by Heat Induced Hemolytic and Protein Denaturation method using Diclofenac sodium as a standard. Results: The percentage inhibition and stabilization values for anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory were obtained and discussed. Finally a comparison was made with the commercial available formulation used for pain. Conclusion: The result clearly indicates that the methanolic leaf extract of the study species shows effective in scavenging free radical and can be used as a good anti-oxidizing agent in various fields of medicine, food industry etc. It also shows that the methanolic extracts of leaves are capable against anti-inflammatory activity.

Keywords: Semecarpus ancardium, Diclofenac, methanolic.
