Abstract

ANTIMICROBIAL STUDY OF WHOLE EXTRACT, ISOLATED INGREDIENTS, AND NEWLY SYNTHESIZED ANALOGUES FROM BUTEA MONOSPERMA

ABSTRACT

Man’s existence on this earth has been made possible only because of the vital role played by the plant kingdom in sustaining his life. The three important necessities of life – food, clothing and shelter and a host of other useful products are supplied to a great extent by the plant kingdom. The modern system of medicine has made a tremendous progress and synthetic drugs and antibiotics have revolutionized the complete scenario. But their toxic side effects are also being realized which has attracted the attention of whole world towards natural system of medicine. Man has made use of plants in the treatment of diseases. A large number of drugs are of plant origin. Plants keep the body in tune with nature as nature intended and maintain proper balance. Natural sources help people to build their good health. Melghat region is a rich source of medicinal flora. Near about 772 natural species found in Melghat region which are being used by the tribal residents over the centuries for the cure of various skin diseases. Butea monosperma is one of the medicinally potential plants found in Melghat region which is frequently used for the eradication of skin diseases. The present investigation was undertaken to screen the efficacy of Butea monosperma whole extract, isolated acidic ingredients and its newly synthesized analogues on certain bacteria and fungi which are responsible for skin diseases such as Streptococcus pyogenes, Nocardia calcarea, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Trichosporon cutaneum, Rhodotorula rubra, Candida albicans, and Cryptococcus luteolus. In comparison among the impact of test compounds; it was revealed that, the Butea monosperma isolated acidic ingredients and its newly synthesized analogues showed significant activity than the whole extracts.[1-3]
