ABSTRACT
Barleria longiflora L.f (Acanthaceae) commonly known as
Kattukanakambaram. It is used as one of the most important drugs in
traditional system of medicine. The GC-MS analyses showed that the
presence of Twenty three different phytocompounds in ethanolic
extract of leaf of B. longiflora. The highest peak area of 36.13% for
9,12,15-Octadecatrienoic acid,(z,z,z)- was identified in leaf of
B.longiflora. The ethanolic stem extract of B. longiflora showed that
the presence of sixteen different phytocompounds. The highest peak
area of 44.94% for Squalene. The root extract of B. longiflora showed
that the presence of Twenty five different bioactive compounds. The
root of B. longiflora showed β-Sitosterol with the highest peak area of
30.87%. The present study confirmed that the presence of active
compounds in different parts of B. longiflora. In future, the isolation of above mentioned
bioactive compounds from the different part of B. longiflora would be useful to find out the
novel drugs.
