ABSTRACT
The present investigation was performed to harness the potentialities of date fruit to analyze zahidi (Yellow coloured) and khuneizi (Red coloured) varieties of date palm fruit for neutraceutical values. The assessment regarding neutraceuticals contents of fresh date fruits (doka stage) revealed a significant amount of flavanoids (3.26-4.67 CEQ/100g), Total phenolic content (212.53-224.53 mg GAE/100g) and Total antioxidant activity by DPPH assay (39.43-44.48%). Khuneizi variety had significantly higher (p<.05) flavanoids, phenols and antioxidant activity as compare to zahidi variety. A strong significant correlation was observed among flavanoids, phenols and antioxidant activity. Thus, date fruits have a great potential to be considered as functional food owing to its neutraceutical contents.
Keywords: Flavonoids, total phenolic content, antioxidant activity, neutraceuticals, date fruits.
