ABSTRACT

An experiment was conducted in lactating crossbreed cows to investigate the efficacy of herbal methionine analogue, Methiorep (M/s Dabur Ayurvet Ltd. India) in increasing the milk yield and milk fat percentage. A total of 12 crossbreed cows which were in their early lactation were divided into 2 groups (T0 and T1) with 6 animals in each group. The animals of group T0 were not given any supplementation and were kept as untreated control and animals of group T1 were supplemented with Methiorep at the rate of 10g/day/animal for one month. Milk yield was recorded daily and milk fat percentage was recorded at 0, 3rd 5th, 7th and 10th week of experimental period. The increase in average milk production and milk fat percentage was observed in Methiorep supplemented crossbreed cows (15.85 liters and 3.79%, respectively) as compared to control group crossbreed cows (14.74 liters and 3.72%, respectively). It can be concluded that Methiorep supplementation was successful in increasing the milk production and milk fat percentage in crossbreed cows.

Keywords: Milk yield, lactation, milk fat.
