ABSTRACT

The present study was designated to evaluate the in vitro anthelmintic activity of Toddy Palm (Borassus flabellifer). The gastrointestinal nematode, Pheretima posthuma, has been reported to cause severe health problems in millions of people around the world. Records prove that many of the aqueous extracts obtained from various parts of different herbal plants exhibited significant Anthelmintic activity against Pheretima posthuma. This gave us a lead to found new compound resulting in the Anthelmintic activity on Toddy Palm (Borassus flabellifer). The vermicidal activity was studied in four different volumes (5, 10, 20, 40 ml) & 5/15, 10/10, 15/5, 20/0 ml were prepared. The dilutions were evaluated for the time of paralysis and time of death of the worm. Toddy Palm (Borassus flabellifer) exhibited significant Anthelmintic activity. At highest concentration of 40 ml and dilution’s 20/0 ml excellent Anthelmintic activity was reported as compared to standard drug, Albendazole & 2% w/v Gum acacia. Toddy Palm (Borassus flabellifer) In Vitro studies indicated that Toddy Palm (Borassus flabellifer) possess significant Anthelmintic activity.

Keywords: Toddy Palm (Borassus flabellifer); Pheretima posthuma; Anthelmintic Activity.
