Abstract

SYNTHESIS OF FERROCENE SCHIFF BASE COMPLEXES (ORGANOMETALLIC) WITH MICROBIAL AND SPECTRAL STUDIES

Gulam Farooq and Manohar V Lokhande*

ABSTRACT

Synthesis of Ferrocene Schiff bases derived from fluropyridine-3, 5-diamine and ferrocene carboxaldehyde with some transition metal ions such as Mn (II), Ni(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Pd(II) and Pt(II). These organometallic complexes was characterized by some Spectral techniques such as IR, Electronic Spectra, Magnetic moment, Conductivity, Elemental analysis , thermal analysis and X-ray Powder Diffraction and microbial activities. These complexes are 1:l {M:L} ratio with general formula of the complex is [ML.2H2O]Cl2. These complexes are electrolytic in nature. The magnetic moment values of the complexes show that, they are paramagnetic and diamagnetic in nature. The coordination nature of the metal ions and ligand takes place through >C=N-(Imino) and -COOH groups. The electronic spectral data shows that, Cu (II) complexes are covalent in nature, tetrahedral geometry and co-ordination number four with central metal ion. According to thermal analysis two water molecules were losses. The prepared Schiff base organometallic compounds and its metal complexes were tested for their microbial activity with some bacterial species. The microbial activity data shows that the metal complexes of Pt(II) are more activity as compare to other metal ions and parent Schiff base organometallic compounds are also more active.

Keywords: Infrared, Mass Spectra, Electronic Spectra, Thermal Analysis, Conductivity and microbial Activity.
