ABSTRACT

Objective: The health system of Pakistan is currently undergoing major reforms. Healthcare professionals’ satisfaction in their jobs would determine the quality of the service delivery for their respective communities. Therefore the present study was conducted to assess the impact of organizational care on job performance amongst healthcare workers of tertiary care facilities in Karachi. Methodology: A cross sectional study with self-administered structured questionnaire was conducted to assess the impact of organizational care on job performance amongst healthcare professionals of tertiary care facilities in Karachi. The study included a sample of 134 healthcare professionals selected through convince sample technique and were rendering their services in three tertiary care facilities of Karachi. Descriptive statistics were used to demonstrate participants’ demographic information and their response to the questionnaire items. To observe the influence of age, gender, type of organization, job status and salary on the responses, one way ANOVA was adopted, using p<0.05 level of significance. Result: The results were consistent with current literature and revealed a low level of satisfaction with the organizational care provided. Mass population 77% agreed that their organization provides insurance facility to make sure their health needs are properly addressed. However, 75% were not satisfied with professional development opportunities in their organization and 72% agreed that the day to day task is not related to their capabilities and skills. 84% were not willing to put great efforts beyond that were normally expected in order to help the organization be successful. More than 80% were not agreed that the environment for men and women is equally feasible and comfortable and were not having great level of trust on their organization. Conclusion: Response of health professionals is a basis for concern, given that the factor of job satisfaction could have implications for the overall efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of the Pakistani health system. Our findings suggest the interventions of policy makers to increase levels of job satisfaction among health care professionals.
