G. Maggi Stella*, K. Geetha*, A. Ajitha and V. Uma Maheswara Rao

ABSTRACT

Metformin hydrochloride is the biguanide class of oral antihyperglycemics improves glucose tolerance in patients with type 2 diabetes, lowering both basal and postprandial plasma glucose. It is developed and validated by different instruments like UV-Spectroscopy, HPLC and RP-HPLC. Glibenclamide also known as glyburide is a potent, second generation oral sulfonylurea antidiabetic agent widely used to lower blood glucose levels in patients with type II non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. It is developed and validated by different instruments like UV Spectrophotometry and RP-HPLC. Metformin/glibenclamide (Glucovance) fixed-dose combination tablets are a second-line drug treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus when glycaemic control does not improve with metformin or sulfonylurea monotherapy. It is developed and validated by different instruments like UV-Visible spectroscopy, RP-HPLC and HPTLC. The developed methods were accurate, precise and linear.

Keywords: Metformin, Glibenclamide, Glucovance, UV-Spectroscopy, HPLC, RP-HPLC, HPTLC.
