ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology is an emerging field of nano science, and utilizes nano based systems for various biomedical applications. This rapidly developing field of nanoscience has raised the possibility of using nanoparticles in the diagnosis, treatment and therapeutics. The use of plant products for the synthesis of nanoparticles adds a new dimension for modern nanobio-technology. The cost effectual and environmently safe technique for the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using the extract of Chinese white ginseng-Panax ginseng plant root extract as reducing and capping agent from one milli molar silver nitrate solution is described in this article. Objectives: The objective of this study is to present an evidence-based eco-friendly perspective of silver nanoparticles properties in synthesis and applications. The Biomedical application of silver nanoparticles can be rendered more effective by using biologically synthesized nanoparticles that are found to be exceptionally stable, and also minimize toxicity and cost. This study illustrates the synthesis of silver nanoparticles using the Chinese white Ginseng plant root –Panax ginseng after 24 h of incubation period at room temperature. Methods: These silver nanoparticles were determined and characterized by means of UV-Vis Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD).The nanoparticles exhibited maximum absorbance at 500nm in UV-Vis Spectroscopy. The XRD Spectrum of Silver nanoparticles exhibited two (2) theta values corresponding to the silver nanocrystals. SEM Micrographs revealed the formation of well-dispersed silver nanoparticles of 100 approximately nm size. Results: The Debye-scherrer equation was used to calculate particles sizes, and silver nanoparticles of about 100 nm were observed. The process of Ag+ reduction is plant bio-reduction which made it an easy, reliable and ecofriendly (Green synthesis) method for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles for therapeutic purpose.

Keywords: Silver nanocrystals, XRD, SEM, UV-vis, green synthesis.
