Abstract

THERAPEUTIC ANTIOXIDANT IMPACT OF GREEN TEA ON COPPER MEDIATED LDL OXIDATION AND CONJUGATED DIENE FORMATION IN NORMAL AND DIABETIC SUBJECT: IN VITRO

ABSTRACT

Diabetes mellitus is a medical disorder characterized by varying or persistent hyperglycemia (elevated blood sugar levels), especially after eating. It is one of the most common endocrine disorders affecting almost 6% of the world s population. It is a group of disease characterized by elevated blood glucose. concentration because of diminished or exhausted insulin secretion from pancreatic b-cells and insulin resistance. Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness, renal failure, nerve damage which can lead to erectile dysfunction (impotence), foot and leg amputations in adults. Abnormalities in lipid and lipoprotein metabolism and impairment of endothelial function have been implicated as the main contributing factor in atherosclerosis and its progression. Recent human studies suggest that green tea may contribute to a reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetic. based on our study of Therapeutic impact of green tea on conjugated diene, MDA content and lipid peroxidation of LDL in normal and diabetic subject may be useful in the prevention and treatment of dyslipidemia/hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis. Oxidation of normal LDL in absence of extract 1.490 fold (149.60%) increase was observed but in presence of EGT(1mg/ml) 1.42 fold(142.26%) increase, While in case of diabetic LDL in absence of extract 1.186 fold (118.65%) increase was observed but in presence of EGT(1mg/ml) 0.870 fold (87.01%) increase was observed. In addition, use of these herbal plant extracts will be efficacious, cost effective and involves no risk of side-effects at all
