ABSTRACT

This study was undertaken to establish data on some biochemical and anthropometric measurement in children with protein energy malnutrition on plasma or serum levels in Imo State children. We estimated the levels of total protein, albumin, globulin, height, weight, body mass index, age, sex, in the serum or plasma of 99 malnourished children and 98 non-malnourished Owerri children. The serum protein, serum globulin, serum albumin, body mass index, height, weight, levels were significantly (P<0.05) lowered in malnourished children than in non-malnourished children controls. There was significant difference (P<0.05) in the mean values of the biochemical parameters and anthropometric measurements of malnourished children according to age range when related to non-malnourished children. There was significant decrease (P<0.05) in biochemical parameters and anthropometric measurements of malnourished children when compared to non-malnourished children.
