Abstract

HAPLOIDENTICAL STEM CELL TRANSPLANTATION: AN OVERVIEW AND PRESENT SCENARIO

Meonis Pithawala*and Ruchi Parmar

ABSTRACT

Haploidentiacal stem cell transplantation offers curative approach to many haematlogical disorders. The technique has evolved in recent decades because of the immediate donor availability and the possibility of collection of donor cells for cellular therapy in future. Historically, posttransplant problems of graft-versus-host-disease (GvHD), relapse and nonrelapse mortality occurred because of severe infection. The higher incidence of GvHd was limited by T-cell depletion in the donor cells. Sever approached have made to overcome non relapse mortality such as t-cell replete therapy and natural killer cell therapy. Administration of high-dose of conditioning regimen can be used to overcome the post-transplant barriers, suggesting that the most important barriers against haploidentical stem cell transplant can be overcome. Many strategies need to be performed to overcome the post-transplant barriers due to the advantages it offers.

Keywords: Haploidentiacal stem cell, posttransplant problems of graft-versus-hostdisease (GvHD).
