Abstract

SALABATE SHARAEEN (ATHEROSCLEROSIS) IN UNANI PERSPECTIVE: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Salabate Sharaeen is literal meaning of atherosclerosis or The term Salabate Sharaeen stands for atherosclerosis or the literal meaning of Salabate Sharaeen is atherosclerosis. Although it has not been mentioned directly in classical Unani text , but Salabate nabz and tangie urooq is widely discussed by various Unani scholars like Ibne Sina, Majoosi, Ibn Rushd, Ibne Zuhr, and Ibne Nafees, etc. They have mentioned the causes, etiopathological factors and complication of Salabate Nabz in their treatises. Salabate Sharaeen (Atherosclerosis) is one of the commonest and most prevalent diseases of the world, its underlying pathologic process causes several cardiovascular and cerebrovascular complications. It is a well known fact that Hyperlipidaemia and Obesity (Samane mufrat) are important risk factors for Atherosclerosis, which eventually causes narrowing of blood vessels. Furthermore there are description of various types of shaham, 7 which are considered as one of the etiological factors for the development of suddae urooq and tangie urooq and Salabate Sharaeen.
