ABSTRACT

Liquisolid system is a novel concept of drug delivery via oral route. This technique is applied to water insoluble drugs and lipophilic drugs to sustain their release. According to the new formulation method of liquisolid compacts, liquisolid medication such as liquisolid tablets, solution, suspension of water insoluble drugs in suitable non-volatile liquid vehicles can be converted in to acceptable flowing and compressible powder by blending with selective powder excipients. It has been speculated that such system exhibit enhanced release profiles. In this case, even though the drug is in a solid dosage form, it is held within the powder substrate in solution or, in a solubilized, almost molecularly dispersed sate, which contributes to the enhanced drug dissolution properties. Liquisolid system is characterized by flow behavior, wettability, powder bed hydrophilicity, saturation solubility, drug content, differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infra red spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, in-vitro release and in-vivo evaluation. By using this technique, solubility and dissolution rate can be improved, sustained drug delivery systems be developed for the water soluble drugs.

Keywords: liquisolid compacts, liquid load factor (Lf), liquid medication, mathematical model.
