Abstract

PHARMACOGNOSTICAL STUDIES ANDPHYTO CMECIAL SCREENING FOR ACTIVE COMPOUNDS IN BARLERIA MONTANA NEES USING VARIOUS SOLVENTS

ABSTRACT

Indigenous drug Barleria montana Nees in Wall used by different ethnic groups of the world for the treatment of diseases have special significance from long time like diabetes, wounds, cuts, hepatoprotective, etc. No scientific work has been carried out on the leaf of Barleria montana.The present work is undertaken to produce some pharmacognostic and phytochemical standards and this founding’s may help to proper identification and ensures the quality of the drug. It may help this amazing plant grown on commercial basis for better use in pharmaceutical herbal The extract of Barleria montana was done by using soxhlet apparatus with various solvents.With. The results were tabulated accordingly. The percentage yield of various extract of Barleria montana leaves was found to be 8.56 w/w.The preliminary phytochemical studies revealed presence of the presence of Alkaloids, Carbohydrates, Glycosides, Gums, Phenols, Proteins, Saponins, Steroids, Fixed oils and fats.
