EVALUATION OF DIURETIC ACTIVITY OF FICUS GLOMERATA ROXB. IN EXPERIMENTAL ANIMAL MODEL

ABSTRACT
Diuretics are class of drugs which increases the rate of urine formation. Herbals always posses promising opportunities in treatment of diseases due to various reasons such as lesser side effects etc. Since centuries herbals has been used as diuretics. Now a days various governmental regulatory bodies made preclinical pharmacological studies mandatory. Ficus glomerata Roxb belonging to family Moraceae has been used in the treatment of various diseases. There is lack of scientific study for this plant in diuretics. Hence the present study was carried out. Different extracts of the plant such as petroleum ether, chloroform, acetone, ethanol, aqueous extract of the plant were used on wistar rats of either sex. Various parameters such as urinary volume and urinary electrolytes were taken into account of Ficus glomerata Roxb significantly caused improvement in all these parameters. Hence this drug looks promising as diuretics.
