Abstract

COMPARISION OF DERMAL WOUNDN HEALING ACTIVITY OF MANJISHTA EXTRACT IMPREGNATED COLLAGEN AND CROSS LINKED COLLAGEN DERMAL FILMS

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to hasten and to improve the wound healing quality. Ensuring the physicochemical compatibility, Manjistha Extract impregnated Collagen & crosslinked Collagen dermal films (MEICDF & MEICCDF) were formulated using different concentrations such as 10%w/v, 15%w/v and 20%w/v of Manjishta. The formulated films were subjected to physical, biochemical and histopathological examinations. Wound healing studies on Male Wister Rats were performed for a period of 7 days and it was observed that the 15%w/v of both MEICDF & MEICCDF treated rats possessed higher amount of Hydroxy Proline content 70.2% & 71.0% when compared to that of the existing Marketed formulation (Neu- skinTM) (60.59%). Further, better wound healing activity was observed in the 15%w/v MEICDF & MEICCDF treated rats (77.1% & 79.1%). When examined histopathologically, more production in the collagen content was clearly observed in 15% w/v MEICDF & MEICCDF treated groups which resulted in the epithelial gap reduction. The more count of fibroblast (64 & 65 in 100μ in the wound during the healing process) in 15% MEICDF & MEICCDF treated groups suggests that it is a feasible and productive approach in the improvement of dermal wound healing process.
