Abstract

COMMUNITY PHARMACY BASED HEALTH SCREENING AND MONITORING SERVICES-DESIGN AND EVALUATION, IMPLEMENTATION

ABSTRACT

Objective: To design, implement & evaluate a specific health screening and monitoring services for hypertension, diabetes and anemia at JSS Community Pharmacy. Methodology: A prospective was study conducted over a period of nine months at JSS Community Pharmacy. Study subjects meeting the inclusion criteria were enrolled into the study after obtaining their written informed consent. The Human Ethical Committee of JSS College of Pharmacy approved the study. Appropriate physiological parameters were measured during screening & monitoring services at JSS Community Pharmacy. Results: During the course of the study, a total of 405 subjects visited the study site. All subjects agreed to have their blood pressure measured and BMI assessed. A 200 subjects were screened for diabetes .Statistically significant (p<0.05) improvement was seen in the blood pressure control of both known and newly detected hypertensive patients being monitored. Conclusion: Majority of the study subjects favoured screening and monitoring services in community pharmacies. The hypertensive and diabetic patients who resided in the area around the community pharmacy were extremely satisfied with the service that was provided.
