Abstract

EVALUATION OF ANTIPYRETIC AND WOUND HEALING ACTIVITY OFALCOHOLIC EXTRACTS OF AERIAL PARTS OF AERVALANATA AND HPLC STUDY OF VARIOUS EXTRACTS OF AERIAL PARTS OF AERVALANATA.

ABSTRACT

The present study is aimed to evaluate the antipyretic and wound healing activity of alcohol extract of Aerva lanata and identification of quercetin by HPLC methods. As per standard method. The phytochemical analysis shows presence of alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, carbohydrates, proteins and tannins. The alcoholic extract was studied for antipyretic activity by yeast induced hyperthermia method in rats, wound healing activityby excision wound model on rats in which wound healing study includes measurement of parameters like rate of wound contraction, period of epithelialization. Then an attempt was made to find out the presence of Quercetin present in alcoholic extract of aerial parts of Aerva lanataextract by reverse phase HPLC equipped with C18 column with Uv/vis detector. The results revealed that thesignificant antipyretic activity of extracts was found when compared to control. Nitrofurazone was used as standard reference drug and in wound healingand itrevealedthat significant decrease in time of epithelialization in the animals treated with extract. In HPLC identification the retention time obtained from the standard quercetin was compared with that of the retention time obtained from the extract. From the study it was concluded that the extract were found to possess significant antipyretic activity and wound healing activity and the presence of quercetin in alcoholic and ethyl acetate extract of aerial parts of Aerva lanataby HPLC.
