AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF TANDRA W.S.R. TO NARCOLEPSY- A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT
In present era Tandra (narcolepsy) is a most not very much common problem but It can occur in any age group and it is very much affecting on common life style. Due to this disease various psychosomatic manifestations like generalized weakness (Dourbalya), high blood pressure, restlessness, lethargies etc. can occur and which decrease the quality of life badly. According to Ayurveda Tandra causes Balahani, Karshya, Agnyanata, Klam etc. Ayurveda have very much potential to treat this condition; as in Ayurveda some fruitful Panchakarma therapies and some medicinal therapies are mentioned to cure this condition like Nasya, Shirodhara, Shiropichu, which has no any side
effect. In modern medicine we can use some sedatives, anti-depressant, anti- psychotic drugs which has very much side effects. In this case an effort is made to treat a 32 years male having symptoms like restlessness, sleeplessness, heaviness in head, anorexia etc. from 3 yrs. The treatment given is 2 settings of Pradhaman Nasya, only 1 setting of Agnikarma, and Shirodhara for 7days. The results shown positive response by increasing the duration and quality of sleep besides the anti-depressant drug was stopped and along with quality of life.
