A REVIEW ON IMPORTANCE OF RAKTAMOKSHANA IN MANAGEMENT OF VARICOSE VEIN AND VARICOSE ULCER

ABSTRACT
Vein is said to be Varicose when a vein become dilated, elongated, & tortus. It is most commonly found in prolonged sitting, Obesity, Pregnancy, old ages and Athletes peoples. Venous ulcer is a severe clinical manifestation of chronic venous insufficiency. The pathogenesis is start with the dysfunction of valves causing venous hypertension which stretch the vein resulting in varicose ulcer formation. In Ayurveda prospective an venous ulcer can be correlate with Siragata Vatajanya Vrana. Acharya Sushruta propounds practical guidelines for blood-letting and claims it as most effective therapy in
half of the body ailments. Among various methods for blood-letting such as Jalaukavacharana Karma, Prachhann aKarma, and Siravvadhana Karma, Jalaukaavacharna Karma(Leech therapy) is considered as the ideal method to expel out the vitiated blood safely, quickly, and effectively. The other method of Raktamokshana i.e. Siravyadhana Karma(Vein puncture) is routinely practiced in the past and so much importance is given to it in classics. But now a days, the Jalaukavacharana method practising more.
