Abstract

A CASE STUDY OF SHAMANA THREAPY BY PUSKARAMULA CHURNA(INULA RACEMOSA)CHURNA AND SATI (HEDYCNIUM SPICATUM) CHURNA IN A PATIENT OF TAMAKASHWASA ROGA (BRONCHIAL ASTHMA)

ABSTRACT

In this period, Bronchial Asthma is widespread problem in societies due to diverse behavioral and environmental reasons and also excessive use of allopathic drugs such as corticosteroid and Bronchodilators which contribute major part in pathogenesis of BA. Bronchial Asthma is one of the types of respiratory diseases that have been documented maximum number of ancient books. Tamaka shwasa is said to be a krichasadhya or yapya type of respiratory disease. The ultimate goal is to prevent linga(symptoms), minimize morbidity from acute episodes, and prevent functional and psychological problems to provide a healthy (or near healthy) lifestyle, appropriate to the individual. Ayurveda, as well as, Allopathic medical, emphasize on the palliative care in the management of Tamaka shwasa (bronchial asthma). In Ayurvedic text, drugs like pushkarmoola and sati are the group of drugs in Shwasahara mahakashaya, these drugs are mentioned for the effective control of symptoms as well as cure of shwasa roga. The adverse effect of Shamana is minimal and curable easily keeping this facts in mind pushkarmoola churna(Inula racemosa)churna and Sati (Hedycnium spicatum) churna is used as shamana measure along with other Shwasahara drug in a case of Tamak shwasa for a period of three month with monthly follow up. The result is clinically significant in reducing the symptoms and remarkable improvement is obtained in Pulmonary function test(PFT).
