Abstract

EXTRACTION OF ?-AMYLASE INHIBITORS FROM HAEMILIA PATENS AND SCREENING OF ITS ACTIVITY ON ZEBRAFISH (DANIO RERIO) FOR THE TREATMENT OF HYPERGLYCEMIA

ABSTRACT

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease which is characterized by sudden upsurge in the blood glucose level resulting from Insulin insufficiency. The main objective of this research work is to extract α-amylase inhibitors and evaluate the hyperglycemic activity against alloxan induced zebrafish (Danio rerio) from Haemilia patens. The α-amylase was extracted from the leaves of Haemilia patens by Soxhlet extraction method. In-silico studies were done by subjecting the methanolic plant extract to the GC-MS analysis. Carinol was found to be the compound which was binding effectively to the enzyme α-amylase by using autodock software. In-vivo studies were done by inducing diabetes to the zebrafish. In-vitro studies were conducted to investigate the α amylase activity. The extracted compound exhibit inhibitory activity in comparison with acarbose as a standard drug. With further research, the extracted compound may act as a potential drug for the therapeutics of diabetes.
