Abstract

FORMULATION DEVELOPMENT AND OPTIMIZATION OF TASTE MASKED ORAL DISINTEGRATING TABLETS OF ABACAVIR SULPHATE AND LAMIVUDINE

ABSTRACT

The objective of the study is to develop an optimized taste masked orally disintegrating tablets of Abacavir sulfate and Lamivudine. From the Carr’s index and Hausner’s ratio the flow properties of both the Model drugs are very poor. Solubility studies showed that the Abacavir sulfate is having high solubility in pH 7.5 buffer and Lamivudine in 0.1 N HCl. All the above trails were made with mixed fruit flavor, final trails were made with varying different flavors like strawberry, peppermint flavors, where the strawberry flavor was optimized due to its acceptable flavor. The tablet parameters like weight variation, hardness, thickness etc. were evaluated for all batches. Physical parameters of tablet were found to be satisfactory in all the batches. Invitro dissolution studies were performed for the optimized formulation which showed 100% drug release with in 10 min in 0.1N HCl. In order to evaluate the stability, the final optimized formulation F26 was charged at accelerated conditions of temperature and humidity as per ICH (400C & 75% RH) for a period of 4 weeks and the exposed samples were evaluated for physical parameters and invitro dissolution studies.
