Abstract

ANATOMICAL CHANGES OF SOME MAJOR ORGANS AT VARIOUS DEVELOPMENTAL STAGES OBSERVED BY MRI SCAN IMAGING OF A SERIOUS RODENT PEST, THE WILD RAT ( Rattus sikkimensis ) IN THE GANGETIC PLANE OF WEST BENGAL, INDIA

ABSTRACT

Anatomical changes of some vital organs at various developmental stages of one important rodent pest, the wild rat (Rattus sikkimensis) have been studied by MRI scan imaging technique. For this particular purpose, the wild adult male and female rats were captured from the field in some districts of the Gangetic plane of West Bengal, India. After collection the animals were taken to the laboratory and kept in proper husbandry conditions. Breeding of the animals were started in the laboratory. To observe the developmental changes of some major organs individual litters were properly anaesthetized taken to the MRI chamber , and MRI scan images were taken at various developmental (i.e., 1, 7, 14, 21, and 60 days) stages. The MRI images which have been taken will help to study further physiological conditions for taking control measures of this group of rodent.
