Abstract

MOLECULAR STUDY ON MULTIDRUG RESISTANT (MDR) PATHOGEN PSEUDOMONAS SP. STRAIN TS_397 ISOLATED FROM EGG SHELL AND USE OF PLANT EXTRACTS AS BIO PRESERVATIVES

ABSTRACT

Food-borne pathogens are a major threat to food safety. The increasing prevalence of antimicrobial resistant bacteria is a major concern to human beings. The fact that eggs can be contaminated or infected horizontally (through the shell) or vertically (transovarially) makes them a potential source of pathogens in the etiology of food borne diseases in humans. The microorganisms were detected using traditional method i.e., using specific medium. Then multidrug susceptibility was tested, where the microbe showed resistance to all the antibiotics. Prevalence of multidrug resistant (MDR) pathogens in various foods related to poultry seriously affect the consumers. Keeping this in view, the present study focused on the isolation, molecular identification of pathogens isolated from egg shell, and the PCR amplification of the mecA gene. Various plant extracts of Androgrphis paniculate and Illicium vernum were used as a bio preservative, where these both preservatives inhibit the growth of microbial growth after 48 hours of incubation. Shelf life analysis of the coated eggs were also studied.
