Abstract

EPIDERMAL GROWTH RECEPTOR FACTOR TARGETING – A REVIEW ON CURRENT TRENDS

ABSTRACT

Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) has been an attractive target for clinicians and scientist’s world over for treatment of various diseases. It has been one of the most important target in treatment of neoplasms ranging from non small cell lung cancer, laryngeal cancer, cervical cancer, lung, breast, to ovarian cancers. Epidermal growth factor inhibitors characteristically inhibit proliferation and may stop the growth of tumor cells. They exhibit anti-angiogenesis activity. Besides being an effective target in treatment of cancer, it is also an effective target in treatment of renal disorders. EGFR inhibitors are also found to be effective in various cardiovascular conditions. Research indicates that EGFR inhibitors are potential anti-viral agents. They are also found to be effective in treatment of hepatic fibrosis and also in the treatment of diabetes. It has been reported that EGFR inhibitors may be effective in treatment of psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, and rheumatoid arthritis and malaria. We are reporting various activites associated with EGFR.
