Abstract

SCREENING OF MEDICINAL PLANTS THROUGH ELISA AGAINST PAECILOMYCES LILACINUS AND TRICHODERMA VIRIDE

ABSTRACT

Background and Aims: The aim of our study is to evaluate the antifungal activity of seven medicinal plants used in traditional medicine against various diseases. Selection criteria for these medicinal plants on the basis of medicinal uses and immunopharmacological properties. Aqueous leaves extracts of seven medicinal plants were screened for their antifungal activity against these fungal pathogens especially Paecilomyces lilacinus and Trichoderma viride. Methods: In an effort to search for those medicinal plants were resistant against these fungal pathogens i.e. Paecilomyces lilacinus and Trichoderma viride. One of the familiar techniques in immunology i.e. ELISA is able to detect these fungal strains in aqueous leaves extract of different medicinal plants and also determined its cytotoxicity. Results: The results showed that out of seven, only three medicinal plants were susceptible against these fungal strains. Medicinal plants i.e. Calotropis gigantea, Calamus rotang and Ficus religiosa raised antibody production against these fungal strains and also showed its inhibition at higher doses. Conclusion: Hence, this research was carried out to find out the resistance source from medicinal plants in the form of aqueous leaves extract and detect through Elisa technique and cytotoxicity assay.
