Abstract

IN VITRO SCREENING OF ANTI-OXIDANT, ANTI-INFLAMMATORY ACTIVITIES OF A.PANICULATA AND T.CORDIFOLIA CRUDE EXTRACT

ABSTRACT

AIM: The present in-vitro study was conducted to evaluate the comparative antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of A.paniculata (leaf) and T.cordifolia (stem) in different extracts (i.e ethanol, petroliun ether and water). Anti-oxidant activity in different plant extracts was determined by measuring the scavenging activity of DPPH, ABTS, Super oxide radical and total anti-oxidant activity, here Ascorbic acid was used as a standard drug where as anti-infammatory was determined using albumin denaturation assay using Aspirin as standard drug. The results of these in-vitro assays showed that, all the extracts of A.paniculata prove to be more potential showing higher % inhibition than T.cordifolia extracts. It was supposed that higher activity of A.paniculata extrat was due to the presence of higher phenolic and flavanoid components than T.cordifolia extracts, moreover these components showed higher activity in ethanolic extract in both the plants, supporting ethanol as a strong candidate used in the extraction phytochemicals. From the result, it is concluded that phytochemicals (phenols and flavanoids) present more amount in the A.paniculata extract may be responsible for its higher antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity than T.cordifolia and can be used as a effective drug against inflammatory diseases.
