Abstract

MEDICINAL PLANT EXTRACTS FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF LEAF CURL DISEASE OF CHILLIE (CAPSICUM ANNUUM LINN)

ABSTRACT

In the present investigation, management of leaf curl disease of chilli plants are evaluated by using selected medicinal plant seed extracts (Sapindus trifoliatus, Solanum trilobatum Linn and Lantana camare) and compared the result with standard chemical insecticides [Imidacloprid (0.05%), Acephate (0.1%) and Malathion (0.05%)]. When all the three seed extracts and standard insecticides are calculated for their percentage of reduction in disease incidence, the Sapindus seed extract showed 53.25% reduction followed by Solanum (25.97%) and Lantana (2.59%). Imidacloprid when sprayed showed 85% followed by Acephate (75%) and Malathion (64%). The Lantana seed extract completely failed in the management of leaf curl disease and Sapindus seed extract showed moderate to significant levels of reduction for the management Leaf curl disease when compared to the control (77%). The Imidacloprid was most effective in the management of leaf curl disease.
