Abstract

IN VITRO ANTIOXIDANT POTENTIAL OF ETHANOL EXTRACT OF PEDALIUM MUREX (PEDALIACEAE)

ABSTRACT

Reactive oxygen species play a critical role in cardiovascular diseases, inflammatory diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, cancer and ageing. Currently, there has been an increased interest globally to identify the plant base antioxidants that are pharmacoglically potent and no have side effects for use in preventive medicine and the food industry. As plants produce significant amount of antioxidants to prevent oxidative stress through their redox active secondary metabolite, they represent a potential source of new compounds with antioxidant activity.Considering the growing interest in possessing the antioxidant capacity of medicinal plants, the present study compared to standard 28.92 The data suggested that Pedalium murex possess high scavenging activity and has the property to modulate endogeneous oxidative stress and may be effective neuraceutical to abrogate oxidative aims at phytochemical chraracterisation and to investigate the invitro antioxidant activity of ethanol extract of mangrove associated plant Pedalium murex using DPPH model .Total phenolic and flavanoid contents were also determined. A signigicant correlation existed between the concentration of the extract and percentage of inhibition of free radicals. The extract showed potent DPPH radical activity with IC50 values 81.75 stress in the body.
