ANALYSIS OF ANALGESIC DRUGS EFFECTIVENESS IN THE ORTHOPEDIC PATIENTS OF TEACHING HOSPITAL

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Pain is the most common symptom prompting patients to seek medical attention. The Curing of pain is important and the overall well-being of the patient. As a result, analgesic prescribing as an adjunct to therapy is widely practiced. For diagnosing pain, pain scales are used. Aim: Analysis of Analgesic Drugs Effectiveness in the Orthopedic Patients of Teaching Hospital. Materials and methods: The study was carried over six months. On the basis of inclusion and exclusion criteria, 207 patients were selected from the inpatient department and outpatient department over a period of 6 months for the study. Intensity of pain was measured by using pain scale. Pain scale was collected before, during and after giving the medication. Results: Majority of the patients were 57 belong to age group 31-40
years. In case of gender 123 were male and 84 were female which included 157 patients from OPD and 50 were reported from IPD. 48 patients has history of minor intensity of pain, 113 moderate pain and 46 severe pain. In most of the patients two analgesics were prescribed. It was found that multiple analgesics were more effective compare to the single drug therapy. Tapentadol shows more effective analgesic action in the study. Conclusion: It was concluded that use of more than one analgesic was showed more effectiveness during the therapy. Pain assessment should be practiced by using pain intensity scales, so that right choice of analgesics can be prescribed according to the intensity of pain.
