CHECK PYELOSCOPY DURING PCNL: A SAFE PATH TOWARDS SUCCESS

ABSTRACT
Aim: To present our experience of a novel concept of Check Pyeloscopy during PCNL. Patients and Methods: From Jan-2015 to May-2015, a total of 50 candidates (33 men and 17 women), with a mean age of 38.5 (range 24–55 yrs), were included in this study. All patients underwent PCNL using Fluoroscopic guidance for renal calculus more than 2cms. All the patients were operated in the standard prone position. Check pyeloscopy was performed via Alken‟s sheath (12Fr) using a thin ureteroscope. Results: 33 out of 50 patients had correct entry into collecting system on pyeloscopy. 14 patients had under dilatation. 3 patients had over dilatation. All these 17 patients were benefitted by doing check pyeloscopy as we were able to maneuver the ureteroscope and reposition the Alken‟s sheath correctly within the system. All the patients had correct positioning of the
Amplatz sheath into the collecting system at final nephroscopy. Conclusion: Check pyeloscopy is a novel-economical technique and acts a check for adverse events during tract dilatation in PCNL.
