Abstract

MANAGEMENT OF CERVICAL SPONDYLOSIS WITH BALA TAILA AND MASHABALADI KWATH: A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT

Cervical spondylosis is a chronic degenerative condition of the cervical spine, including disc degeneration, facet arthropathy, osteophyte formation, ligamentous thickening and loss of cervical lordosis. This is one of the most common degenerative disorders of the spine, affecting 95% of patients by the age of 65 years. The disease cervical spondylosis and Greevasthambha are similar in their etiology, signs and symptoms. Greevasthambha is a Shula pradhan vata nanatmaja vyadhi affecting musculo-skeleton system and leaving the person disable from daily routine activity. Treatment includes sequential administration of Snehana, Swedana, Basti, Nasya karma and certain shaman yogas. This patient was treated with Bahya Snehan with Bala taila and oral administration of Mashabaladi Kwath for seven days. The treatment was found to be efficacious in the whole symptom of cervical spondylosis. This was a pilot trial done on a single case; the results of which cannot be generalized therefore further studies using a rigorous scientific method are needed to determine the safety and efficacy of treatment.
