Abstract

A CLINICAL STUDY OF ECZEMA BY TOPICAL APPLICATION OF LEAVES OF CASSIA FISTULA LINN

ABSTRACT

Background: Before the introduction of modern medicines, disease treatment was entirely managed by herbal remedies. It is estimated that about 80% of the world population residing in the vast rural areas of the developing and under developed countries still rely mainly on medicinal plants. Leaves of Cassia fistula Linn. is known as a rich source of tannins, flavonoids and glycosides present in Cassia fistula Linn. might be medicinally important and/or nutritionally valuable and used in many skin diseases. Aim and objective: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of paste of leaves of Cassia fistula Linn. in management of eczema. Methods and Material: Total 30 patients of eczema fulfilling the inclusion criteria were randomly selected from the O.P.D. and I.P.D. of National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur. The informed consent from each patient was taken and treated with paste of leaves of Cassia fistula Linn. for 4 weeks. Results: All calculations were calculated through ‘Graph Pad In stat 3’ software. Leaves of Cassia fistula Linn. was found to be more effective to control discoloration, itching, oozing, pain, burning, lines/ thickening of skin and eruption. Conclusions: From the results it is concluded that, Leaves of Cassia fistula Linn. is likely to check the etio-pathogenesis of Eczema (Vicharcika) and arrest its progress.
